This simulation illustrates the oceanic tides induced by the gravitational pull of a tide‑generating body (the Moon). The deformation of the Earth's water envelope is exaggerated for visualization. The simulation is based on a 24‑hour cycle (in a geocentric rotating frame) so that one full cycle corresponds to a day. Use the controls above to play/pause the animation, step through it frame by frame, reset the simulation, or manually adjust the simulated time with the slider.
