About this Simulation

This simulator models the relationship between sound speed, distance, and time using the familiar context of fireworks. Learners observe how sound travels at different speeds, calculate delays between light and sound arrival, and explore how distance affects the time it takes to hear an explosion. Interactive controls allow manipulation of viewing distance and visual parameters.

Learning objectives: Understand that sound travels at a finite speed and calculate this speed using distance and time measurements | Explain why we see fireworks before hearing them and apply the speed of sound formula | Explore how distance affects sound travel time through interactive experimentation
