About this Simulation

This simulation models the emission and absorption of light by hydrogen atoms, allowing learners to visualise electron transitions between energy levels. Students can explore how discrete spectral lines form, observe continuous spectra, and understand the relationship between energy differences and photon wavelengths through interactive manipulation of atomic states.

Learning objectives: Understand how electron transitions produce characteristic emission and absorption spectra | Apply the energy-level model to explain discrete and continuous spectral lines | Relate photon energy to wavelength using quantum theory
