About this Simulation

This simulation models standing wave formation in pipes with adjustable boundary conditions (open or closed ends). Students can vary frequency and observe how resonance patterns emerge, exploring the relationship between pipe length, wavelength, and harmonic modes in real time.

Learning objectives: Understand how standing waves form through interference in confined spaces | Predict resonant frequencies based on pipe length and end conditions | Relate wavelength, frequency, and wave speed in different acoustic environments
